In the month before going to Antarctica with FINNARP in 2003, I composed a short piece of electronic music called Packing the Gear ( a link to mp3-file). It was during that season that we (Anna Sinisalo, Kristiina Virkkunen, and my self) collected the 100 m long horizontal ice core SBB01H from the Scharffenbergbotnen valley.
Together with the data we collect this year we hope to be able to get a good climatic record of how the deglaciation interacted with the Southern Ocean. This year I also plan to collect some Antarctic sounds that will inspire me to write more music when I get back home to Rovaniemi, Finland. More of my music can be found on
