Three researchers from the Arctic Centre will take part in an expedition to Antarctica (FINNARP 2006) and they will write to this blog on their research and life there. Members of the Antarctic Expediton are:
* John Moore, Glaciologist-Paleoclimatologist
* Aslak Grinsted, Geophysicist
* Kristiina Virkkunen, Chemist.
Research will be done on blue ice area that locates about 200 km from Aboa, the Finnish research station. Main goal of the expedition is to collect ~500 m long horizontal ice core for climate history studies. The ice samples will be analyzed in Finland for ions. We will also study the dust content and electric conductivity of the ice using different methods, for example laser.
